Jane Sutherland, Project Director of Creative Skills commented, “This is the fourth year that Creative Skills has run the event which this year brings together more artists and craftspeople than ever before. Open Studios gives the visitor an opportunity to view the artist’s work, talk directly to the artist and learn about their inspiration and ways of working and buy affordable art and craft. Many artists get together to exhibit their work and cream teas are often an additional treat to make your visit that much more special.”
Creative Skills manages Open Studios Cornwall from their offices based in the former Redruth Grammar School, now known as Krowji, the Cornish name for ‘workplace’. This site is being developed into a vibrant creative hub and has many artists working from studios and regular visitors to its arts café, The Melting Pot. Krowji artists taking part in Open Studios include Christine Spencer-Green, Becky Crawford, Ellie Williams, Carl Thorgood and Amy Albright. Amy, was last year’s winner of the Midas Award, a contemporary visual arts award established by Artonomy Fine Art, Midas and University College Falmouth . Part of the award gave her studio space at Krowji and this is her first Open Studios experience.
You can plan your visits by picking up a Cornwall Open Studios brochure from Tourist Information Centres, local galleries or other cultural venues. Posters will be sited around the county directing you to local artists’ studios. Look out for the distinctive orange logo. Details are also available from:
