Cornwall's being splashed across cinema screens throughout the South West, and the whole country, from today as "Ladies in Lavender" goes on general release. Roughly 60% of the movie was shot on the South West Cornish Peninsula at locations such as Helston town centre, Prussia Cove, Looe Pool and Cadgwith, where a crowd of local fishermen were used as extras.

The movie is Charles Dance's writer/director debut and is based on the short story by William J. Locke. It is set in a tight-knit Cornish fishing village in the 1930's and tells the tale of 2 sisters (played by Judi Dench and Maggie Smith) who have their lives turned upside down when they discover a handsome castaway (David Bruhl). Local lifeguards, catering, accommodation and transport services were used, along with security, drivers and vehicles courtesy of "Location Services Ltd".
